My journey with yoga began 10 years ago. Struggling with many facets of modern life, in and out of my then trade, a panel beater. I found myself seeking support for declining physical and mental health. My search lead me to my long term teacher Mark Stevens (YogaStudioEly) and my beginning in the study of yoga in the form of Sivananda yoga. Very soon I was lifted up and supported by the many facets of a yoga practice.
Three years on I looked to further strengthen my practice by travelling to Kerala, India. To complete my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with my now guru Swami Govindananda.
After completing my studies in India, I came home with a strong foundation of traditional Hatha Yoga. A thirst to share my practice and to study further with teachers in a variety traditions. Attending workshops with Robert Moses (Sivananda Yoga), Sharon Gannon, Lady Ruth (Jivamukti) and Gregor Maehle (Ashtanga). Going on to complete a 50hr asana retreat with Gregor and a 50hr anatomy course with Dr.Yogi. I'm currently studying Vinyasa Krama with my long term teacher Mark Stevens, a practice coming from the teachings of Rama Swami, a student of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. As well as developing my practice through personal study in all aspects of the yoga tradition. I still love to learn and grow my knowledge, building a diverse toolbox to allow me to offer back to others.
After 20 years in a challenging Accident Repair career, where my desire for quality and hard work allowed me to thrive but my health decline. I finally chose to offer Yoga fulltime.
I'm also a keen youth football coach, recently completing my UEFA C qualification. On top of my standard offerings, having seen massive benefits in performance and recover, I'm also really interested in combining the two. Supporting athletes who push themselves to the limit to gain results. From personal experience I have seen my durability, focus, mindset and recovery time supported by this practice.
The practice I offer is in tune with my personal path. General practice and study will be formed on a foundation of the Sivananda yoga principles of 5 P's: Proper Breathing, Proper Exercise, Proper Thinking, Proper Diet and Proper relaxation.
Where possible I will run an hour basics class before an open class, allowing space for 'new to yoga' students to experience, understand and perfect the fundamentals of the practice. Offering space to explore, understand and support the individual. Building a toolbox that will help prepare a student for an open class.
An open class will allow for more flow, less individual focus and space to experience the practice on offer. A chance to concentrate on moving through a complete guided practice, containing: Yoga philosophy, Asana, Deep relaxation, Pranayama and Mediation practices.
Whether its your 1st or 1000th class, I look forward to sharing this beautiful practice with you.
Hope to see you soon, in a class near you
